MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A newspaper publisher who resigned from Alabama's mental health advisory board is rejoining the panel after members changed the rules to guarantee public access to their meetings.
Paul Davis said Thursday he never wanted to step down from the Department of Mental Health's Advisory Board of Trustees last month. He said he rejoined only because members voted Wednesday to allow public access by announcing the meetings in advance so members of the public can attend.
Aside from being a newspaper publisher in Auburn, Davis is a mental health advocate who's been involved in such work for four decades.
Davis said the board's meetings became an issue recently. The department is trying to decide whether to sell the old Bryce Hospital property in Tuscaloosa.
