Wes Wyatt will be the first to tell you that Alabama experiences some of the most diverse weather conditions in the United States. From hurricanes to severe thunderstorms to winter storms, there are always surprises when it comes to the weather in Alabama. As a native of Tuscaloosa, Wes links the weather in Alabama to his passion for studying and forecasting weather.
Wes joined the Fox 6 team in June 2010. His first television appearance took place at WJRD-TV in Tuscaloosa. After graduating from MSU in 2000, where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Broadcast Meteorology, he then moved to Meridian, MS to join the team at WTOK-TV. Wes returned to Tuscaloosa in 2003 and spent seven years delivering weather information to the citizens of West Alabama. During this time he also completed a Master's of Science degree in Geography from the University of Alabama. Wes continues to teach broadcast meteorology at the University of Alabama during the fall and spring.
His honors include the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal from the American Meteorological Society and the Seal of Approval by National Weather Association. He was also named best weather anchor by the Associated Press in 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2009. The State of Alabama House of Representatives passed a resolution #767 in 2005 to honor Wes for his coverage of severe weather in West Alabama. He also has a published work involving a climatological investigation of the greater Tuscaloosa area.
When he's not forecasting the weather, Wes spends lots of time speaking to students and organizations throughout our community. He also spends time out of the weather office with his wife Nicole and little chihuahua Baxter. He's a big fan of the outdoors, college football, and dedicates lots of free time to playing guitar.
You can watch Wes Wyatt during our Saturday and Sunday morning shows starting at 7 AM. Occasionally you may also see him filling in for other members of the Storm Warn Team and on-air when severe weather threatens. You can find Wes on Twitter and also find his fan page on facebook.
