BIRMINGHAM,AL (WBRC) - An Alabama soldier killed in Afghanistan will be laid to rest Monday.

The family of Andrew Hand says his funeral will be Monday, August 2, at Liberty Church on Old Rocky Ridge Road in Birmingham. The viewing will be at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m.  Burial will take place immediately after the service at Veterans Cemetary in Montevallo.

Hand, 25, and three others in his group died when an IED exploded near the vehicle he was driving. Hand leaves behind two sons and a fiancee.

Hand's father is Kenneth Hand, an assistant football coach at Spain Park High School. Coach Hand said his son was due to finish up his third and final tour of combat duty in October. Specialist Hand's stepmother said Hand knew the assignment was dangerous, and asked his family to pray for his safety.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ronald McDonald House.
