AUBURN, AL (WBRC) - The man in charge of Auburn's offense could become the new head football coach of Vanderbilt University as early as today.
The Washington Post reports Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has already accepted the job, but other outlets said Sunday night Malzahn was only considering the offer.
Vanderbilt began searching for a new coach two weeks ago when Robbie Caldwell stepped down after just one season as the head coach. Caldwell was assistant head coach and offensive line coach under Bobby Johnson before taking over in mid-July, when Johnson announced his unexpected retirement.
The Commodores went 2-9 in Caldwell's first try as a head coach.
Malzahn won the Broyles Award last week as the nation's top college football assistant coach.
