Spring break arrives for many students and teachers

Spring break arrives for many students and teachers

Posted: Updated:

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Monday is the start of spring for many school systems and colleges and universities in our area.

Thousands of people will hit the road over the next week traveling to and from their spring break destinations.

State troopers say they are prepared for increased traffic throughout the spring break season. They are ramping up patrols on interstates and other heavily traveled beach and vacation routes to promote travel safety during the period.  Enforcement plans include speed traps and DUI checkpoints.

The city of Birmingham could not hold its "Spring Fling" next week, so city officials asked the McWane Science Center, the Birmingham Zoo, Vulcan Park and the Museum of Art to admit students free with a paid adult admission.

They will also close Linn Park at dusk and have a free street festival.
