The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, May 18, 2010:
I've got one of these and I've got one of these…and I have a lap top computer and a desk top computer…so I know what it means to always be connected…24 hours a day. But REALLY!!
Today, on my way to work, I was in the middle lane on the interstate and a young woman passed me doing about 70 miles an hour. She had a cell phone in her hand and appeared to be texting as she sped down the highway.
Three cities in our viewing area, Vestavia Hills, Jacksonville and Roanoke, have passed laws prohibiting texting while driving…laws are being put in place because folks don't use common sense.
While today's technology has set the expectation that we'll respond immediately to calls, texts and emails; there is NOTHING so important that it can't wait until your vehicle is parked. Don't put yourself and others in jeopardy. Pull off the road and then respond.
OR SIMPLY…PUT THE PHONE DOWN AND DRIVE!
