It's a dog-eat-dog world in the "dog days" of summer and every other time of the year. There's no longer the helping of elders cross the street. People have places to go and shoe sales they don't want to miss. Acts of kindness by fellow drivers are few and far between. The nicest gesture you're likely to get from them involves a certain "naughty" finger. People would rather sport a scowl than flash a smile. Camaraderie is gone. Respect is obsolete. The social fabric is tattered and torn. Extend a helping hand to a person in need. Say things like "Good morning" and "How are you?" Nod. Wave. Smile. In short, just act civilized! We need it more now than ever before.
