Editorial: Samford Bulldogs Women at the Big Dance

The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Thursday, March 17, 2011:

The Samford Bulldogs women's team won the Southern Conference Tournament title which gets them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, the grand daddy of all post season tournaments.

64 women's teams nationwide qualify- this is the first time in Samford University women's basketball history that the team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament or "The Big Dance" as most call it.

Coach Mike Morris has done a fabulous job with players such as Paige Anderson, Savannah Hill and Emily London.  The Bulldogs can shoot it, too. The team ranks 4th in the nation in three-point shots!

The Bulldogs play Florida State at Auburn on Sunday, and while the team will be an underdog… when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, you just never know! Just ask last year's Butler men's team- a team that reached the NCAA Tournament championship game.

Whatever the outcome of this weekend's game, our congratulations go out to the Bulldogs……for being among the envied elite invited to "The Big Dance".
