The Calera Police Department has released the names of the victim and suspect involved in a shooting in Calera on Saturday, July 23.

Cory Xavier Merritte Stallworth, a 26-year-old resident of Calera, has been arrested for the first degree murder of Charlie Abdulla Shabazz, 27, also of Calera.

Authorities say the two men were acquaintances who were sitting together on the front porch of Stallworth's house when they got into an argument. Stallworth went inside his residence to retrieve a rifle, came out and shot Shabazz. Shabazz ran into the street, where Stallworth chased him and fatally shot him. The shooting occurred near the 100 block of Spring Street in the Summerchase neighborhood of Calera.

Police responded to the scene around 3:15 p.m. and found Shabazz suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Calera police took Stallworth into custody after arriving to the scene of the shooting. Stallworth has been charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
