A woman being treated for multiple burns to her body is facing charges of arson for setting fire to her estranged husband's travel trailer.
Jefferson County deputies responded to a report of a house fire in the 6000 block of New Castle Road in Morris Monday night around 11:30 p.m. During the investigation, deputies learned that a 47-year-old woman admitted to paramedics that she intentionally set fire to a travel trailer belonging to her husband. The woman drove to the Birmingham Fire Station on Carson Road seeking treatment for the burns she received while setting the trailer on fire.
The suspect told deputies that she poured gasoline in the trailer and was still inside when she ignited it. She was injured in a small explosion and suffered burns to her arms and feet.
The house next door to the husband's trailer, which belonged to his father, also burned as a result of the arson. No one at that residence was home at the time, and no one else was injured. The woman told deputies that she and her husband had been separated for a month.
Charges are pending for the suspect as deputies continue to investigate.
