Government asks to meet with e-bingo trial jurors

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) -

What went wrong?  The federal government is asking U-S District Judge Myron Thompson to allow prosecutors and defense attorneys to meet with willing jurors and alternates. The government contends they may get information that could be beneficial to a retrial of the seven remaining defendants.

The prosecution has asked Judge Thompson to split the trail into three separate trials and for the first one to start Oct. 31st.  Judge Thompson earlier this week set Oct. 3rd as a start date.

In a motion filed Tuesday, the government contends they and the court could not foresee the myriad of practical and logistical problems with all nine defendants tried at once. The government adds the lengthy examinations and re-examination tested the jurors attention and may have lead to mistrials on the remaining charges in the case.

The defense team has until Monday to file motions why the prosecution's request should not be granted.
