BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

William Bell was re-elected Tuesday as mayor of Birmingham.

Bell defeated five other challengers for the office. He will serve two years until the next city election in 2013, when both the mayor and the city council seats will be up for a vote. Previously, the election for mayor was staggered every two years between the city council elections.

Tuesday's final election results:

Kamau Afrika (627) 3.44%

William Bell (15,952) 88.96%

Patricia Bell (655) 3.66%

T.C. Cannon (263) 1.47%

Willis Buddy Hendrix (158) .88%

Harry Turner, Jr. (285) 1.59%
