CALERA, AL (WBRC) -
A little girl in Shelby County got an early Christmas present Monday... her dad.
Kylee Hepworth, 6, was in her first grade class at Calera Elementary when she was presented with a special gift to open. When she opened it, she discovered her dad, Lt. 1st Class Ryan Hepworth, inside the box.
She immediately hugged him. Hepworth older son, Carson, was also there.
"It was great," Lt. Hepworth said of the surprise. "I just love seeing my kids' faces, you know. I haven't seen them in so long. It's just been, I'm still just kinda outside of myself right now. It's amazing."
Hepworth had been stationed in Afghanistan for almost a year and had not seen his family since a short break in July. He said he expects to be home for about a month before leaving for more training.
