BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A mid-level narcotics dealer has been arrested and charged with several drug-related offenses in a successful undercover operation led by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

David Lee James, 49, had an outstanding warrant for a violation of the Sex Offender Notification Act, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. Deputies with the JCSO Vice/Narcotics unit tracked James and took him into custody without incident on Saturday, Dec. 10. James was arrested in the 800 block of Delta Street in Birmingham.

The following illegal narcotics were found in James' possession: to-wit, alprazolam and hydrodcodone. Deputies searched the residence where James was arrested and discovered three grams of heroin with an approximate street value of $1,500. The drugs and three firearms, one of which was reportedly stolen, were seized from the residence.

Birmingham Police have charged James with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Violation of the Sex Offender Notification Act, Christian said.

Charges from the Sheriff's Office for the possession of heroin and stolen firearm are pending. Additional federal charges related to the firearm possession are possible.
