NEW YORK (RNN) - Music superstars Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first child Saturday in New York according to E! News.
According to the New York Daily News, Beyonce, 30, checked into the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York's upper East Side under an assumed name. The couple rented out an entire floor of the hospital to keep the affair private. According to E! News, Beyonce gave birth to a daughter through a scheduled Cesarean section.
Although representatives for the couple would not comment, Jay-Z, 42, is reportedly telling friends that they named their daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
Superstars took to Twitter to congratulate the new parents, including Russell Simmons and Gwyneth Paltrow, both well-known friends of Beyonce and Jay-Z.
Just after midnight, Rihanna tweeted "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." Sean Combs, also known better by the stage name P. Diddy, tweeted "Congrats to jay and B! God Bless :) ! And many more!"
Celebrities aren't the only ones getting caught up in the excitement of the couple's new child. "Blue Ivy" was trending on Twitter in not only the United States, but worldwide after tweeters initially confused the child's name. For hours before that, "Ivy Blue" was trending.
A parody account for the baby girl has already popped up on the site, albeit with the wrong name. The account of "Ivy Blue Carter" has more than 18,000 followers and 154 tweets in the hours following her birth. The parody quips include lines like "Excuse me, Ima let yall tweet BUT my mom had the BEST DELIVERY OF ALL TIME #IvyBlue" and "Im charging $100k to cry on a track #IvyBlue #BlueIvy."
Beyonce and Jay-Z are well-known for keeping their private lives out of the public eye. In the early 2000s, the pair reportedly started dating. Jay-Z was featured on a number of Beyonce's tracks, but their relationship remained much more discreet than many comparable superstar relationships. They tied the knot at a ceremony in 2008.
