BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

State senator Scott Beason says he is ready to go to Washington. He announced today that he will challenge Representative Spencer Bacchus for the 6th Congressional District Seat.

Beason brought along his entire family to the announcement. He referred to himself as a conservative reformer several times in the press conference, saying that is what Washington needs.

Beason says Republicans are just as responsible as Democrats for the problems he sees in at capitol and he wants to turn things around. The decision to make a run for the job came with some resistance from Beason's wife Lori. She said she was against it in the beginning.

"His political career has been very led by God and my personal opinion, in the beginning, was absolutely not because of the age of the kids and they like their dad at home and... It will all work out," said Lori Besaon.

"We did talk about it a lot. We talked to the kid's about it and we think it's the right thing to do," said State Senator Beason.

Beason will be challenging Congressman Spencer Bacchus who is in his 10th  term in the U.S. House.  He briefly spoke with FOX6 News after Beason's announcement and said he has always run a tough campaign no matter who is running against him.

As of this afternoon, Beason's campaign website was live at http://www.scottbeason.com.
