Anniston School Board considering school closings

Posted: Updated:
ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

The Anniston School Board is discussing closing one or more of its schools.

During a meeting last night, board members heard from Superintendent Joan Frazier. She cited the city's declining enrollment and administrative costs as reasons for the possible school closures.

Some ideas were thrown around at the meeting. They include shutting down one or two of Anniston's elementary schools or relocating students from Anniston Middle School. However, that would involve some construction at other schools.

There will be at least one more work session and a number of community meetings before  anything happens.
