Gadsden man shot 5 times while trying to escape attacker

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

The Gadsden Police Department says they are investigating a shooting that occurred on Thursday. Officers say the call came in around 7:45 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene in the 300 block of North 6th Place, the found Oliver Bond, Jr. lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses reported that Bond had been trying to get a ride out of the area because someone was after him. They say a black male then approached Bond and began shooting him.

Bond was airlifted to UAB Hospital where he was treated for five gunshot wounds. His condition was last listed as ‘critical' around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Gadsden police say the suspect is a black male about 5'9" and 190 pounds. A possible nickname for the suspect is Bam Bam. Anyone with information can call Detective Teri Farris at 2560549-4867. Callers can remain anonymous.
