The Etowah County Judicial Center's roof is in need of some major roof repairs, but the money will have to come out of the county's reserve funds. The county's warranty with the builders doesn't cover repairs.
The building's leaking roof is damaging ceiling tiles and destroying equipment on the third floor, which houses administrative offices. So far, the leaking has not interfered with trials or court hearings. The building is used for both the county's district and circuit courts.
"What we're going to be looking at doing is, we're not actually going to be taking the roof totally off. What we have to do is replace the top seal. That's what's really going to have to be replaced to keep it from, to keep that leakage from taking place," Etowah County Commissioner Jeff Overstreet said.
The cost to repair the roof will be around $100,000. There is not yet a date set for when the repair work will begin.
