that's big - Rascal Flatts and Sara Evans perform at the BJCC. Tonight
and tomorrow night the Alabama Symphony Orchestra tackles Rachmaninoff
at the Alys Stephens Center. The Red Mountain Theatre Company's Youth
Programs perform tomorrow and Sunday at the Virginia Samford Theatre!
And new movies opening this weekend include "Big Miracle" with Drew
Barrymore and John Krasinski, "Woman in Black" with Daniel Radcliffe,
and "Chronicle." For more on this and other happenings, check out the
City Scne in today's Birmingham News.
BBJ - Rick talked with Evan Belanger and Ryan Poe from the
Birmingham Business Journal. They discussed Birmingham's housing market
and why some investors are buying up properties now and controversial
non-user fees being discussed in the Alabama Legislature soon. For more
on these and other business stories, visit www.birminghambusinessjournal.com.
SUPER BOWL ADS - Rick talked with Mark Ervin, Chief Branding Officer
at Big Communications, about what to expect from this year's
commercials running during the Super Bowl. Reportedly it costs $3.5
million for a 30 second and $6 million for a 60 second commercial this
year. There are lots of automotive brands as well, which is a good sign
that the economy is moving in the right direction. The big trend this
year - Teasing and Shazam. Lots of companies are running ads now teasing
their big ads to run during the game and lots of spots running during
the game will be connected to Shazam. The popular music ID app will let
you click during an ad and it will take you to a site related to it...
Simply based on the music. We will see more and more social integration
as advertisers try to get you to interact with them online while you're
watching the game. And, this year is the first time you can watch the
game on something other than a tv. It will be broadcast live on YouTube
and through Verizon's partnership with the NFL Mobile App. You can
follow Mark's live commentary about the spots as they air during the
game. Mark's Twitter handle is @mewrite.
WEAR RED DAY - Janice talked with Matt Hooper, communications Director for the Birmingham office of the American Heart Association, and Dr. Michael Bailey from the Birmingham Heart Clinic to explain Wear Red Day. National Wear Red Day is today. It kicks off American Heart Month. The facts are clear. More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, the killer isn't as easy to see. Heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood. That's why the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement needs your help to raise awareness about this preventable disease. By simply wearing red and/or the red dress pin on National Wear Red Day on February 3rd, you can help uncover the truth about heart disease. For more information, visit Heart.org, GoRedForWomen.org, & YoureTheCure.org. You can also get frequent updates throughout the day by following Facebook.com/HeartBirmingham and Twitter.com/HeartAlabama.
ZOO CREW - Andy Schertz joins us from the Birmingham Zoo to
introduce Mickey to a new animal. To learn more information about the
animal or visit the zoo, go to birminghamzoo.com.
COMEDIAN - J. Anthony Brown is a titanic comedic force! His
sidesplitting antics and sensibilities have set a precedent that many
now follow. Whether he is murdering the hits with his off key version of
the latest song, or donning a pink pimp suit to evoke a laugh, Brown
will get to your funny bone. His penchant for alligator shoes and
rainbow colored suits convey his "party time" approach for fun. For
tickets or more information on his performances this weekend, call the
Comedy Club Stardome at (205) 444-0008 or visit stardome.com.
