It's one of the training places for the 5th Ovarian Cycle which features individual and teams riding side by side in this 6 hour celebration on February 26th.  It raises money for Ovarian Cancer Research through the Norma Livingston Foundation. Riders pedal their way toward a healthier body while gathering pledges to fund research to find a reliable screening test for ovarian cancer.  Training is open to registered participants at the Levite Jewish Community Center and other area fitness facilties. BETH K - UAB Nutritionist Dr. Beth Kitchin joined us with a look at a new program - the UAB Nutrition Guidance System at the Piggly Wiggly. The program is in 14 local Piggly Wiggly's and is designed to give shoppers a quick and easy way to shop for and buy health foods. "Eat More Often" foods are marked with fork icon. Many of the stores also have a display in front with healthy foods and recipes using those foods. There are also labels showing people the major food groups and how much they should get each day of those foods in those sections of the store. You can also visit http://eatrightbyuab.com/eatright to find meal plans and recipes. The foods that get the fork are low in: calories, sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars and high in fiber.

SIMPLE BITE GOURMET - Erica Tedford Hopper started a business called Simple Bites Gourmet. Her first few products are running and fitness related protein bars. They are all natural, no fillers, and very healthy not to mention really good.
Hopper is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in nutrition sciences. She is also a trained pastry chef having graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in NY same school as Richard Blaise, Cat Cora and the list goes on. And she is a nationally ranked marathon runner and has won a marathon bigger than Mercedes in Rochester, NY. She is developing other products as well but is starting with these.
