Second suspect charged in Cottondale robbery

A second suspect has been charged in a robbery that occurred Friday, Feb. 3 at a Cottondale apartment complex. During the robbery, two men entered an apartment where a birthday party was taking place and opened fire. A total of six people were shot, including the second suspect to be charged in the robbery, Tivon Rollie Thomas.

The condition of the five victims not including the suspect is as follows: a 17-year-old male shot in the chest and an 18-year-old female shot in the abdomen are both in critical condition at DCH. An 18-year-old male shot in the side, an 18-year-old shot in the arm and a 20-year-old shot in the leg have all been released.

The suspect charged today, Thomas, was wounded by return gunfire and is currently in stable condition at DCH Hospital. He has been charged with five counts of first degree robbery, two counts of attempted murder, one count of first degree burglary, two counts of second degree assault and one count of first-degree assault.

Tuscaloosa authorities previously arrested and charged Donald Deshun Wynn, 23, with attempted murder and robbery shortly after the shooting. Wynn was a participant in the Supervised Prison Diversion Program through the Tuscaloosa County Community Corrections program. He failed a drug test four times recently: on Jan. 17, Jan. 23, Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, according to Sergeant Andy Norris with the Sheriff's Office.

"At this time we have found no attempt to revoke Donald Dehun Wynn from the Prison Deferral program and return him to prison to serve his sentence. Had this been done on the first, second, third, or even fourth attempt, he would not have been on the street to allegedly be on a crime where five victims were shot on a robbery," Norris said.

In addition to the charges issued today against Thomas, The Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office is pursuing charges against another person involved in the shootings. The individual will be charged for possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, which is considered a felony.

The investigation is on-going. Sheriff Sexton said in a press conference today that there are at least 20 witnesses that are being interviewed.
