Elderly couple killed in early morning apartment fire

An apartment fire has claimed the life of an elderly couple on Monday morning.

The fire happened around 3:00 am at the Brent Garden Apartments in Bibb County. A Brent Fire Marshal was driving by the apartment comples when he noticed flames shooting out of the unit. Attempts were made to get inside the apartment to rescue the couple, but they were unsuccessful.

Witnesses say the husband and wife were both in wheelchairs.

No one else was injured in that fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
