Man sentenced for disaster claim fraud

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A west Alabama man received 21 months in prison for filing false disaster claims, following the April tornadoes.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Robert Lee Spires was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty. He admitted to getting around $1,600 from FEMA.

Spires claimed the home he was renting was destroyed by the tornado, but that turned out to be a lie.
