GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

The Gadsden Police Department says a Cracker Barrel employee has been charged with falsely reporting a robbery. Captain Regina May says the incident happened on February 10th at the Cracker Barrel on 101 Taylor Drive.

Andrew Woodward told police that he had been working the cash register alone when a Hispanic male came into the store and demanded money from the register before fleeing. Woodward gave a detailed description of the suspect, but there was no video surveillance and no other witnesses.

Investigators on the case found reasons to believe the robbery was staged and Woodward confessed that the robbery was false. They say he admitted to planning and setting up the theft with his roommate, Jason Allen, to make it look like a robbery.

Around $1,300 was stolen and some of the money has been recovered. Allen has been charged on one count of Theft 2nd. Woodward is believed to have left the state, but there are outstanding warrants on him for Theft 2nd and Filing a False Police Report.
