ATLANTA—The No. 24 Birmingham-Southern baseball
team was upset by Emory, 2-1 in 10 innings, Tuesday evening in Atlanta.
BSC
falls to 18-6, breaking a 13-game winning streak, while the Eagles move to
17-7.
The
Panthers got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring after junior
Stephen Denton reached on an error, advanced to second on a walk and to third on
a fielder's choice, and scored on a passed ball. Emory tied it up in the bottom
of the seventh on a sac-fly.
In
the bottom of the 10th with runners on first and second, Emory's Jared Welch
singled to center field to bring in the game-winning and game-ending RBI.
Freshman
Paul Caudill started on the mound for BSC and threw six innings, allowing two
hits with three strikeouts. Freshman David Bourbonnais pitched the next 3.2
innings and took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season after giving up six
hits and allowing the game-winning run on base. He also had three strikeouts.
Junior Blake Yance faced the final batter and gave up the hit by Welch.
BSC
stays on the road this weekend for a three-game SCAC series with Rhodes,
Saturday and Sunday in Memphis.
