Window washer survives 13-story fall

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A window washer fell 13-stories while on the job at Children's Hospital on Wednesday and survived.

Doug Ecker, with Hoar Construction, is investigating the incident. He says the worker is a subcontractor with Everclear Enterprises out of Atlanta. The worker was outside of the 13th story of the building, getting ready to clean the windows, when his equipment failed. He fell 200 feet to the ground.

A spokesperson with Everclear Enterprises said Friday they are conducting a joint investigation with Hoar Construction and said the preliminary investigation does not show an equipment failure.

An electrician on the scene says the man fell in the mulch and the malfunctioning safety equipment slowed his descent.

We are told the worker is in stable condition.
