HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

A couple of students got a happy surprise this morning at Rocky Ridge Elementary School.

Petty Officer Second Class James Brown decided to surprise his kids by showing up at the school after being away from home since November. His son and daughter raced across the room once they got a glimpse of their dad in the doorway, jumped into his arms and gave him big hugs.

Brown is on leave from the Persian Gulf for the next 14 days. He's been serving for the past eight months running a communication system for his ship, dealing with the surface warfare design.

But for the next two weeks, Brown says he's just a family man. His son Anthony says he can't wait to play sports with his dad.
