
Need more ways to beat the heat? Bessemer's annual fan drive kicks off Thursday, June 28, giving residents 65 or older the chance to receive a free fan to stay cool. To qualify for the free fans, applicants must not already own a fan or air conditioner.
Bessemer residents can apply for the free fans by calling the Bessemer Police Department at 205-425-2411.
Anyone who needs to cool off from the hot temperatures on Thursday and Friday of this week can stop by three cooling station in Bessemer. The cooling stations are open at the Bessemer Civic Center South meeting room, the front lobby of the Emergency Operations Center and the Bessemer City Hall auditorium.
The cooling stations will be open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. June 28-29. All three stations will provide cold water for free.
