Goodbye, Rick! We're gonna miss that handsome face. Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for June 29, 2012:
Today was Rick Journey's last day on Good Day Alabama and FOX6. We reflected on some of our favorite memories and sent him off with well wishes. You can still share your wishes with Rick on the Good Day Alabama Facebook page.
BBJ - Rick Journey talked with Ryan Poe from the Birmingham Business Journal about local business headlines. They discussed how Birmingham gun dealers have been feeling pretty secure even during a tough economy; how small business lending by banks in the Birmingham area, which has seen a significant uptick in recent months, is expected to stay on pace during the second half of 2012, industry insiders say; and why NSH Corp., one of Birmingham's largest homebuilders, is launching two new developments in Tennessee with a combined price tag of $20 million. JEH JEH LIVE - The 20th Annual Birmingham Heart Walk is tomorrow! Are you signed up yet? Sign up today or head out to Lin Park early tomorrow to sign up. Admission is free for the event, which begins at 7:30 a.m., and features live entertainment, a family-friendly atmosphere and a 5K walk/run. The goal is to raise both awareness and funding for the AHA's battle against heart disease and stroke - the No. 1 and No. 4 killers in America, respectively. Those who participate in the 5K can choose to walk or run in honor or memory of a loved one who has fought cardiovascular disease. A memorial will be set up on site to honor those who have lost that fight. Dozens of booths will be set up throughout the park and local vendors will be giving away a variety of items. The 5K walk/run will begin promptly at 9 a.m., with the course snaking through downtown Birmingham, primarily down and back 20th Street North. Individuals can create Heart Walk teams, or join an already established team, by visiting BirminghamHeartWalk.org. To learn more about the American Heart Association call1-800-AHA-USA1 or visit heart.org.
COMEDIAN - Sinbad never tells jokes but rather stalks the stage, telling real-life stories. He doesn't deliver payoff lines; he slam-dunks them. His comedy is large, physical, and impetuous. Psychologically, he jams us, poking holes in our lifestyles. His stories mirror our foibles. His is the explosive energy of the neighborhood; his phrasing is manic, musical and right on time. He doesn't write his material; he relives it as he remembers it. For tickets or more information for this weekend's appearances, call the Comedy Club Stardome at (205) 444-0008 or visit stardome.com
ZOO CREW - Kelly Wall joined us from the Birmingham Zoo to introduce Mickey to the opposum. To learn more information about the animal or visit the zoo, go to birminghamzoo.com
ALABAMA DANCER - Janelle Issis is a 24 year old belly dancer from Vestavia Hills. She made it to the top 20 on "So You Think You Can Dance." She is also trained in jazz and tap. Doctors orders kept her from performing on this week's show but she will take the stage when the real competition begins on July 11th... "So You Think You Can Dance" airs on Wednesday nights at seven... right here on FOX6. Janelle joined us on Good Day to tell us about her experience so far and what we can expect this season!
Next on Good Day Alabama, we celebrate Independence Day! Join us for some grilling ideas and the details on the fireworks with Thunder on the Mountain! The doctor even joins us to take your questions about safety for a day of fun in the sun and fireworks! We check out new books for you to take on your summer vacations! That and much more next week on Good Day Alabama!
