"How should we spend $365 million of your tax dollars?" is what Birmingham's city council will decide on tomorrow.
The city budget will be up for a vote tomorrow, almost 2 weeks after it was supposed to be in place on July 1st. There is no guarantee the plan will pass.
The city council's version of the budget includes significant changes from the plan submitted by Mayor Bell. They cut about $4-million from Bell's plan and used the savings to pay for a raise for all city employees. It also awards money to some nonprofit agencies that had been cut under the first plan.
Mayor Bell says some of those cuts are too deep and would hurt the city's growth. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
