Students for Change program sends volunteers across the state

Several area high school and college students are spending part of their summer vacation working for the Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity.

Today, we caught up with John Carroll High students in Midfield. They're scraping and painting a house there as well as cleaning up the yard.

It's all part of the annual "Students for Change" program. During the campaign, students make repairs and improvements to homes for people who aren't able to do it themselves.

It's something that's rewarding to the volunteers.

"We're here just to help someone who might not have enough money or doesn't have the physical ability to fix their own house," said Will Bouton. "So we come in to help for free."

Next week, Students for Change will do work for Birmingham Habitat in Montevallo and Walker County.

They're looking for more volunteers for next week. If you'd like to be a part of "Students for Change" you must be between 14- and 25-years-old. You can sign up for the whole week, a day, or half a day.
