TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

A specially-called meeting for the Trussville City Board of Education on Wednesday did not address some bigger issues in the school system.

It was originally planned that the board would discuss finalizing negotiations for Superintendent Suzanne Freeman to step down from her position. A note on the door to the meeting on Wednesday morning stated that the board would not be discussing the superintendent issue.

Board members said they ran out of time on finalizing the negotiations with Freeman. They believe the severance pay agreement should be finalized in the next couple of days.

The board unanimously passed the motion Monday night to finalize negotiations with Freeman for her to step down from her position. Board President Bill Roberts said the negotiations are almost 100% finalized. Freeman was not in attendance at the regularly scheduled board meeting.

The board announced on July 3rd that Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Zack Barnes had resigned. Barnes was the high school's fourth principal in seven years. It was also expected that the board would discuss filling in the principal and assistant principal positions at the meeting, but the issue was not brought up.
