SYLACAUGA, AL (WBRC) -

A man reported missing in Sylacauga was discovered hiding in his attic, then arrested by police on theft charges.

Several law enforcement agencies helped in the search for Brian Travis, a 31-year-old man who left behind a suicide note before his disappearance around 1 a.m. July 17. Sylacauga Police Chief Chris Carden said in an update on Thursday, July 19, that Sylacauga police investigators found Travis hiding in the attic of his home.

Travis has been charged with second degree theft of property and is custody of the Talladega County Jail.

The police chief said in a release that he is glad the situation turned out the way that it did.

"We will always search for missing persons diligently and professionally until they are returned to their families or in this case placed in jail, everyone did an outstanding job," Carden stated.
