National Guard investigating Birmingham unit

The Alabama National Guard has launched an investigation into a recent deployment. Investigators want to figure out whether personnel improperly took relatives along on military aircraft.

At issue are members of the 117th Air Refueling Wing based at Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport. The unit deployed a total of 96 members in two separate, 2-week rotations to England last month.

More information will be available when the investigation is complete.
