SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Heavy rains and flooding have caused a few road closures and neighborhood evacuations in Shelby County Tuesday morning.

The Cahaba Valley Road near Briarwood School reopened to traffic around 11:05 a.m. Tuesday. The roadway was closed around 9 a.m. due to flooding, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said.  Deputies are still on the scene helping direct traffic while water is still visible.

The City of Alabaster says Thompson Road and Hill Wood Drive are the only roads in Alabaster closed right now.

Hoover police say Valleydale Road near Fox Valley Road is flooding. Traffic on Valleydale Road is being diverted at Spain Park High School. The section of Valleydale toward 280 is closed but the section closer to U.S. 31 is still open, according to a post on the Hoover Police Department's Facebook page.

Law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to use caution while driving and avoid roads submerged in water. If you see a roadway hazard, call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at 205-669-4181.

Some homes in Pelham's Saddle Run and Strafford Place subdivisions have been evacuated due to flooding. Pelham Mayor Don Murphy says some people are being evacuated to the Church of the Highlands and the civic center will be opened if needed. Firefighters are going through Pelham neighborhoods asking people if they want to evacuated.
