The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, July 31, 2012:
Competition…it's a good thing…a very good thing. Real, honest competitors are achievers who force themselves and those with whom they compete, to do and to be their best.
But, at what point does competition cross the line to become selfish ambition…winning at all costs…whether in sports, business, politics or life? When is being first…winning… so important that morality, fairness, and honesty get thrown out the window? Ask the folks who were protecting Mr. Sandusky, or one of our former, amorous Presidential candidates, or businesses that knowingly lie to their customers.
We love winners here in America. But who will hold the competitors accountable? Who, among those who have seen the ugliness beneath the veneer of the bright, shining face of the competitor gone astray with self ambition, will have the guts to call him out?
What do you think?
