GREENE COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

State troopers say one lane of I-20/59 northbound in Greene County has re-opened to traffic after an accident shut down the interstate for hours.

Two tractor trailers collided head-on on I-20/59 NE on Tuesday, blocking the northbound lane at mile marker 38 in Greene County. The wreck happened around 6:00 p.m.

One driver transported to local hospital. There is no word on condition of other driver.

The crash shut the interstate down between mile markers 32 to 38. Anyone approaching the scene is supposed to follow the signage on the roadside that says to detour at exit 32. Many who already passed exit 32 were stuck.

A trooper was slowly trying to get people backed out of that area using shoulder, but as of 2:45 Wednesday a.m., many were still stuck.

Highway patrol dispatch said chemicals were involved, but did not know what kind.
