BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Family and friends are coming together to help a former Birmingham firefighter.

Robert Jeffery Miller was diagnosed with a condition that has left him disabled and his current house no longer meets his needs. For the past couple of weeks, volunteers have been working to make his home more accessible.

"Whenever there's a need, firefighters are always going to come together to work for each other so in the sense that people from the outside seem to think this is an incredible venture, I think that its common with firefighters, I think that theyre always there to take care of each other," volunteer David Null said.

Miller and his family will get to see the changes and move back in on Saturday.
