Cooper Green supporters discuss how to stop service cuts

Community activists met today to brainstorm how to stop Jefferson County commissioners from shutting down inpatient services at Cooper Green.

Comissioners are set to vote next Tuesday on whether to shut down those services within 30 days.

Supporters held two meetings today at the BJCC. Filing a temporary injunction against the commission was suggested, but an attorney guiding the activists, Emory Anthony, told them it wouldn't be an option.

Meanwhile, supporters plan to meet with the three commissioners expected to vote to shut down inpatient services over the weekend. In orer to get around the open meetings law and conduct a closed-door meeting, activists will meet with two of the commissioners and then the third at a later time.

Many of the supporters that attended today's meetings promised to continue protesting against the shut down. Several protestors were seen outside Commissioner Jimmie Stephens' in Bessemer.
