Crews locate drowning victim in Smith Lake

The Winston County Sheriff's Office says they have recovered the body of a man that drowned in Smith Lake on Wednesday night.

Winston County Sheriff's deputies recovered the body of Jerry Dustin Smith around 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to Sheriff Rick Harris, the department received a call around 9:30 p.m. stating that two men had been fishing in the Wilson Bend area when one fell overboard. Winston, Cullman and Walker County Sheriff's Departments are worked together to search for the man.

A family member said Smith served in Afghanistan and was recently diagnosed and undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer.
