
Officials have released the identity of the man hit and killed on I-59 in Birmingham on Friday morning near the 4th Avenue South exit.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identifies the victim as Reynold Earl Freeman, a 23-year-old man from Birmingham. The coroner says Freeman had pulled over on the side of the interstate to change the rear tire of his truck when another vehicle struck him and his truck.
Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no word on the condition of the other driver.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue received a call about the wreck at 3:27 a.m. Authorities temporarily closed down I-59 northbound from 4th Avenue South through 1st Avenue North.
