Curtis Lloyd. Source: Leeds Police DepartmentThe Leeds Police Department says they have arrested a teacher for sending texts to a student that were sexually explicit.
Curtis Lloyd, 32, faces a misdemeanor charge of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19, according to Leeds police.
School administrators and the Leeds Police Department have been investigating Lloyd since they were told in August that he sent sexually explicit texts to a Leeds High School student.
Leeds School Superintendent John Moore said he received credible information from the alleged victim on Aug. 9. That's when the school and police began their investigation.
Lloyd is charged with a misdemeanor instead of a felony because police say there was no indication of physical contact between Lloyd and the student in question. Lloyd was arrested on Friday, Aug. 17 and was released from custody on a $6,000 bond.
Lloyd, a married father of two, has been a physical education teacher in the Leeds School System since 2005. The Leeds Elementary School website lists Curtis Lloyd as physical education teacher. According to his bio, he has taught PE at Leeds Elementary for four years. His bio also states that he coaches football at Leeds Middle School and wrestling and baseball at Leeds High School, in addition to assisting the jump rope team.
"It's a very sad day for us
when these kind of allegations come to life, because we want to have confidence
in all of our teachers and our education employees," Superintendent Moore said.
Lloyd has been placed on administrative leave. Moore says the safety of the students is their first priority.
"I want parents to know that their children are
safe, my own children attend Leeds elementary, and I have the utmost investment
myself in the school system and that school particularly," Moore said.
Chief Jackson says the investigation is ongoing.
