The beating of Somemet Beavers and her three children was captured by a bystander in front of Martin Street Plaza apartments.
Administrators at King Middle School obtained cell phone video of the attack and turned it over to Atlanta police.
Somemet Beavers lives in the apartments and was just feet away from the entrance. For the first time on Wednesday, she watched the one minute and 20-second video that shows a melee of violence.
"It is hard to watch," Somemet Beavers said. "I don't think I want to watch it again. It's not right, it's just not right."
Somemet Beavers was walking with her son and daughter, who are in eighth and sixth grade at King Middle School, and her daughter who is in the 10th grade at Maynard Jackson High School when she said a gang of 15 to 20 boys attacked them.
Her daughter's lips were busted and bruised, her son was left with a black eye and Somemet Beavers was also bruised.
"I laid on my son because they were stomping him. He just balled up, so I laid on him thinking they would stop. When I looked to the side, I saw one coming at me. He punched me. When I tried to get up, he punched me again so I wouldn't get up," Somemet Beavers said.
Before the attack happened, Somemet Beavers tried to get help from an Atlanta police officer who was working at King Middle School.
The officer is a retired Atlanta police officer who worked in the Summerhill neighborhood for 30 years before retiring and taking a post at King Middle School.
"I asked him to walk us to our door. Take us to our door, call backup do something. He did nothing. He walked away," Somemet Beavers said.
She even pointed them out to the officer. Somemet Beavers said that officer did not serve and protect her family.
"So I'm standing there with him and the little boys they taking their shirts off saying, 'We go'in get them, we go'in get them.' The police officer said, 'You'll move on and go home.' They started cursing him out saying, 'F-you, F- you,'" Somemet Beavers said.
Somemet Beavers said she stood pleading with the officer for about 15 minutes, but the Atlanta police officer left her and her three children to fend for themselves.
"Then they just started all coming towards us, just fighting us. One of the boys hit my momma, then my brother tackled him," Nyeshia Beavers said.
Somemet Beavers said after the attack started, the officer still did not come to their rescue.
"When I went the next day, the police officer said, 'We're in Zone 6, they're in Zone 3 so when you and your family crossed over, it wasn't in his hands no more.' How is it not in your hands? You're a police officer, me and my children are getting beat by a gang of men," Somemet Beavers said.
A spokesman with APD said investigators have identified 10 of the boys who attacked Somemet Beavers and her children. He said the department is looking into the allegations against the officer.
"Do we have to get shot for you to do something? What has to happen for you to do something? It was two children and their mother getting jumped on by 15 to 20 boys," Somemet Beavers said.
King has filed a formal complaint against the officer that is now being investigated. Police have not released the officer's name.
