BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

An innocent bystander was killed Friday evening after two suspects exchanged gunfire in the Kingston Community of Birmingham.

Officers from the South Precinct responded to the community after calls came in that two suspects were chasing each other and shooting.

According to Sgt. Johnny Williams, officers apprehended two suspects and took them into custody. Shortly after he says that residents told the officers that someone may have been hit during the gunfight.

Officers found a male unresponsive in his home nearby and he was later pronounced deceased. Investigators learned that the man, 29-year-old Octavius Cooper had been standing in his doorway when the shooting began.
