BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

A group of concerned citizens in Bessemer is staging a protest tomorrow to keep their county courthouse from closing.

The "Saving Bessemer" group plans to meet at 11 a.m. on the steps of the county courthouse in the Bessemer Cutoff.

Jefferson County officials are considering moving the county's western operations out of the jail and courthouse to an empty mall.

Some county commissioners say the county can no longer afford to lease those buildings, but protest organizers say they want the courthouse to stay in downtown Bessemer.
