BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police have arrested and charged a suspect in the murder of a man whose body was discovered beneath a tree in north Birmingham on Monday.

Police have identified the victim in the case as Clarence Jones, a 56-year-old Birmingham man. Jones' body was found around 10:49 a.m. at 14th Street North and 11th Ave. North after someone flagged down a police officer to report a possibly deceased person.

Medics arrived to the scene Monday morning and pronounced Jones dead. The case was initially an unclassified death investigation but turned into a homicide investigation after detectives found evidence at the scene that pointed to a homicide.

The man suspected of murdering Jones has been identified as Harry Jackson, a 47-year-old male from Birmingham, according to BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams. A murder warrant has been obtained against Jones and he is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
