Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for September 6, 2012:
JEH JEH LIVE - Tomorrow night is the last 'Art On The Rocks' for 2012! Join the fun at the Birmingham Museum of Art starting at 6pm. Attendees can participate in gallery tours, art activities, and scavenger hunts all while listening to live music in the Red Mountain Garden Club Memorial Garden. For more information, visit artsbma.org.
BARGAINOMICS - Judy Bates, the Bargainomics Lady, joined us with some great deals! The beige eyelet shrug she wore cam from the Encore Upscale Thrift Shop on Oxmoor Road in Homewood. She says there are deals everywhere right now. Retailers are making the final markdowns on all leftover spring and summer merchandise as well as anything left from the previous fall and winter stock. A couple of examples: she found $22 Izod house shoes for 50 cents at Burke's Outlet and a $7 infant girl outfit for $1 at WalMart. If you haven't already, now's the time to start your Christmas shopping so you can pick up the best bargains and spread the expense of gift-buying over the next few months - it'll be here before you know it! This weekend would be the perfect time to head to Scottsboro where you can shop their gigantic Unclaimed Baggage store and attend the Jackson County Fair. With admission at only $4 and unlimited ride bands are at $20, it's a bargain! This is a real county fair with carnival rides and games; livestock, quilting, woodcrafts, art and flower shows; and a whole lot more. For more informAtion, visit www.JacksonCountyFairScottsboro.org. And wouldn't you love to get rid of the musty smell under your cabinets or in your closets? This $1 product came from Dollar Tree and is a really good dehumidifier for small spaces. She showed us one that was in her closet for the last month and it's already absorbed over an inch of moisture. The container says it will last up to 60 days, but she changes her's once a month. To use these, just remove the plastic grill on the top; tear off the foil layer - not the paper layer underneath it - and replace the grill. For more information, visit www.bargainomics.com.
HOME HOW TO - Tom Lamkin from Marvin's Home Centers joined us with some ideas you need around the house to be prepared for severe weather. He recommends you go ahead and buy the neccesary products you may need in case of emergencies or power outages rather than running out at the last minute to purchase them. The main items on his list include a Weather Radio, flashlights, battery powered lanterns, extra batteries, propane tanks, gas cans, extension cords, & generators. He recommends you evaluate your needs before purchasing a generator. You need to considering running watts versus start-up watts. In a typical home, essential items will average 5,000 to 7,000 watts of power to run. Don't forget to have plenty of canned goods and high energy foods like peanut butter. You should also put important papers like driver's license, social security card, insurance policies, etc. in portable, waterproof containers.
PET OF THE WEEK - A representative from the Shelby County Humane Society introduced us to a pet that needs a new home. His name is Jengio. For adoptions, call (205) 669-3916 extension 22 or visit shelbyhumane.org.
