JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County leaders are looking at the future of county services in Bessemer. To cut costs, county leaders are trying to break the lease at the current Bessemer Courthouse and jail.

Bessemer businessman Anthony Underwood is offering a new home in the former mall at West Lake. The 270,000 square foot facility is just off the Bessemer Super Highway.

"This is not the dream home for the county; they have a beautiful facility now. But we are ideal to provide the type of services the county - as far as accessibility, plenty of parking, and as far as making it available to the population of the Bessemer cutoff," said Underwood.

Underwood will be hosting an open house at noon on Thursday for the public to tour the mall and get a sense of what it might look like if the county decides to move in.
