Tuesday morning the Jefferson County commission voted 3-2 to move to a hub spoke model in providing indigent health care.
A hub spoke model will make Cooper Green Mercy Hospital the hub for providing urgent care and diagnostic care services but the hospital will also have outreach clinics throughout the county.
The model is designed by the former CEO of Cooper Green, Max Michael. The commission also voted Tuesday 3-2 to move patients to other hospitals.
Fox6 News reporter Alan Collins says the meeting was chaotic at times with hospital supporters speaking out during the vote. The commissioners have a December 1 deadline to come up with a plan to move patients.
Cooper Green supporters including Maralyn Moseley insist the hub model will not provide adequate care.
State Representative John Rogers has asked the Attorney General whether the commission has the authority to end inpatient care.
